Delighted to see that two of my favourite organisations – the National Trust and Falmouth University, where I occasionally speak as a guest lecturer – have come together in a pioneering new venture. Writer-in-residence there Wyl Menmuir (a Booker Prize longlister who used another favourite of mine, Prolifiko, to write his novel), has written a short story based around NT property Cheddar Gorge, and students from the university have been involved in editorial, design, production and marketing work, including illustrations by student Emma Butcher.
I think this is such a great idea, bringing together the NT’s brand and financial backing, the talents of an established author, and the enthusiasm of a new generation of students to create publishing magic. Can’t wait to see it!
